Updated Tesla Model S with aggressive steering system, 520-mile range

Elon's electric sedan has undergone much-needed interior modifications, including controversial Cavalier-type wheels. A high-energy plaid model also bowed.

In the fourth-quarter earnings report released on Wednesday, Tesla introduced the long-rumored Model S sedan update (Model X SUV also received a major update), which surprised everyone. Externally, the Model S is equipped with a new front bumper with slightly different air intakes, an improved rear diffuser, and new 19-inch and 21-inch wheel designs. All exterior decorations are now finished in black to match Model Y, but the paint palette remains the same, and white is the only free option.

However, the updated interior is the star of the show. It has been completely redesigned, marking the first major update to the Model S since its debut in 2012. There is a large 17-inch center screen, much like the Model 3 and Model Y, but the orientation has changed: it is horizontal instead. vertical. S also retains a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel in front of the driver. Tesla said that the new center screen is basically a gaming computer with 10 teraflops of processing power, and the released images show that it is running the popular fantasy role-playing game Witcher 3.

The most radical is the new steering wheel. It is no longer exactly a wheel, but rather looks like a yoke in "Star Wars" or "Knight Knight." There are also no levers, meaning that turn signals, lights, horns, and other typical functions are now controlled by tactile buttons on the "wheel." Didn't find PRNDL, Musk said the Model S will change itself "by guessing." At least there's a manual overlay on the touchscreen.

The dashboard and door panels are covered with more carbon fiber or wood trim, and the door card has also been redesigned, which seems to have much-needed extra storage space. The new center console also has more storage space, looks better, and it provides wireless charging for multiple devices. The rear seats are more sculptural and equipped with a new folding armrest with a cup holder. Rear seat passengers have an 8-inch screen that provides the same infotainment and gaming functions as the main screen, and can even be used in conjunction with a wireless game controller. Model S comes standard with three-zone climate control, a 22-speaker audio system, fully heated seats (and ventilated front seats), ambient lighting and a glass roof. White, black and beige remain the only color options for the interior.

The Model S now offers three different specifications. The long-range version, priced at $ 79,990, has two engines and all-wheel drive. Tesla offers a 0-60 mph time in 3.1 seconds, a top speed of 155 mph, and a range of 412 miles. Plaid, which retails for $ 119,990, has a third motor, "carbon sleeve rotor," and torque vectoring. Plaid has 1,020 horsepower, 0 to 60 seconds in 2.0 seconds (Tesla is technically speaking 1.99 seconds), a top speed of 200 mph, and a range of 390 miles.

and then Plaid Plus for $ 139,990, which is a big deal. Tesla said that it has more than 1,100 horsepower and will reach 60 mph in less than 2 seconds. It can also complete a quarter-mile cruise in less than 9 seconds, with a top speed of 200 mph and a range of more than 520 miles. Tesla also said that Model S is now the world's most aerodynamic production car, and Plaid Plus Model

may achieve this. In addition to color, decoration and wheels, the only option is the wheel assist system. Fully automatic driving comes from Tesla. , The cost is $10,000. (The basic configuration of Tesla's autopilot is standard.) The updated Model S is now open for order. Tesla said that Long Range and Plaid models are expected to be delivered in March. If you want the Plaid Plus model, you have to wait until the end of 2021.
