Student Activists - Asif Iqbal Tanha ,Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita released on Bail

Student activists Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita and Asif Iqbal Tanha were released from jail, days after the city judicature granted them bail in reference to the north-east Delhi riots "conspiracy" case.
Narwal, Kalita and Tanha were in remission since last year under the tight Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Natasha Narwal, who recently lost her father due to Covid-19 whereas she was lodged within the jail, aforementioned she "received tremendous support" in the jail and was clear-minded that she is going to continue her struggle. Narwal, an activist of ladies collective Pinjra Tod, aforementioned that once they were arrested, it took them several months to believe that they we arrested and kept in jail beneath such severe charges.
They also alleged that there was a delay in freeing them from the prison since they had been already granted bail two-three days ago. Upon her release from jail, student activist Devangana Kalita lashed out at the government, claiming that it was "trying to suppress dissent" and "voice of people."
Asif Iqbal, who too was kept in jail over the alleged role in the Delhi riots, mentioned that he had unwavering hope that he would be free one day. He continued that the fight against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), NRC (National Regster of Ciitizens), NPR (National Population Register) will continue.
A senior jail official said Kalita and Narwal were released around 7 pm and Tanha around 7.30 pm. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has appealed the Supreme Court, challenging the high court's judgement on granting them bail in the case. The three student activists were not released from the prison on time over delays in verifying their addresses and sureties. In its order for the immediate release of the trio, the Delhi court replied the delay in the verification process by the police could not be a plausible reason for the accused to be kept imprisoned.
After securing bail from the high court, the activists had moved the trial court, seeking immediate release from prison. When the trial court deferred the order on their plea for Thursday, they moved the Delhi High Court, which ordered the lower court to proceed with the issue with "promptitude and expedition".
The three student activists were arrested in May 2020 and are accused of being the "masterminds" of the February 2020 violence, which left 53 people dead and more than 200 injured.
