Mary Kom to hitch alternative Olympic-bound Indian boxers in Italy, can fly on to Tokyo

Mary Kom had skipped the camp in Italy to avoid wasting travel time. She was coaching in Pune.

Olympic-sure boxer MC Mary Kom might be traveling to Italy for schooling until the approaching Summer Games to keep away from regulations imposed on athletes flying from India to Tokyo.

As a protection precaution, the Japanese government have requested the Indian athletes and officers to go through day by day COVID-19 checks for every week earlier than departing to Tokyo.

Moreover, the ones traveling from India will now no longer be allowed to engage with absolutely everyone from some other country for 3 days upon arrival in Tokyo.

To avoid the additional restrictions, Mary Kom has determined to travel to Assisi, European nation and train with the Indian boxing contingent that flew there earlier this month for a preparative camp.

“I have changed my plans. I have returned to Delhi and will leave for Italy maybe tomorrow or day after,” Mary Kom told PTI on Tuesday. There are stricter quarantine restrictions on those who are travelling from India. I want to avoid them. After training so hard for so long, no point in taking such a risk as a hard quarantine can break the rhythm,” the 38-year-old Mary Kom explained.

Mary Kom, a six-time global champion, had stayed lower back in India to educate at Pune’s Army Sports Institute and keep away from losing time touring overseas.

She will now be a part of 8 different Tokyo-sure Indian boxers - Vikas Krishan, Lovlina Borgohain, Ashish Kumar, Pooja Rani, Satish Kumar, Amit Panghal, Manish Kaushik and Simranjit Kaur - in Italy.

The education camp in Italy might be the ultimate risk for the Indian boxers to shine their abilties for the Olympics as they'll now fly at once to Tokyo.

Mary Kom, the 2012 London Games bronze medallist, are making her last Olympiad explore capital of Japan 2020.
